Photograph taken by Paul Slade. Authentic type 1 photo was taken two days after his return to the ring defeating Jerry Quarry, in his first fight after regaining his eligibility to box in the United States.
Muhammad Ali had his boxing privileges stripped when he was accused by the US government of dodging the draft. At that point he began protesting the Vietnam War. It initially is protesting was not appreciated by the American public, however as the war continued, American sentiment changed to be congruent with Muhammad Ali's.
